After 12 years in Congress, Representative Brian Baird announced that he will not seek re-election in 2010. He has been a strong advocate for sales tax deductibility, the Columbia River Channel Deepening project, and more resources to fight methamphetamine abuse. He has left big shoes to fill and the CCDCC will coordinate with the other counties in the 3rd Congressional District and the Washington State Democrats to work hard to retain the seat.
We are fortunate that several strong Democratic candidates have stepped forward and the list continues to grow. As we get clarity from the Washington State Democrats on the process for nominating the Democratic Party candidate for the 3rd Congressional District, we will pass that information along. As soon as formal arrangements to honor Congressman Baird for his years of service have been finalized, we will post those plans too.
