Democrats' Summer Picnic

It was great!

A new event was begun last weekend.  The 1st Annual Democrats' Summer Picnic.

About 175 people gathered with food, barbecues, games and spirit at the Hazel Dell County Park on 68th Avenue last Sunday, Aug 16th.  Music was provided by Tom Scharf and Coleen.  Val Ogden leapt into the cooking and never got a spot on her.  It was an event to be proud of and to look forward to repeating.  Thanks for coming and having so much fun!

2009 Jefferson Jackson Dinner A Big Success

“It was a Blockbuster.” That was said about the 2009 Clark County Democrats’ Jefferson Jackson Dinner and Auction. Six hundred attendees made their way to the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds to celebrate the election of Obama, the great work we did in Clark County in 2008, and just being Democrats. The lights, the sound, the food, the staging, the Auction, and the Program were wonderful. Governor Howard Dean was everywhere - having his picture taken with the YD’s, with local presidential scholar Stephanie Nicholson, with Brian Baird, and with Krist Novaselic (formerly with Nirvana) - and just talking and being excited with new and old friends around the room. He was invited on-stage and flipped the coins for Heads or Tails repeatedly. In his speech, Governor Dean spoke passionately and strongly about two main subjects: the young, multicultural generation and their solid, but different ethics, and about the need for rapid, radical change in America’s Health Care system.

Other highlights included: Chair Dena Horton providing a warm welcome, Emcee Senator Craig Pridemore at his ebullient best all evening, Royce Pollard introducing honoree Pat Jollota, and Doug Lasher introducing honoree Betty Sue Morris. Pete Aller and Marsha Manning were genuinely surprised and gratified to receive the Dan & Val Ogden Democracy Award.

It was a gala evening and fundraiser with nationally-acclaimed auctioneer Doug Petersen keeping a rapid, upbeat pace. Governor Dean was impressed by the level of excitement and the flow of dollars for Clark County Democrats’. If you were there, you had lots of fun – if you weren’t there, you’ll definitely want to attend next year!

UPDATE: CVTV has kindly provided a link to a video of the event's speeches. You can access the video here.

Precinct Work Needed

Published

Precinct Redistricted

Hi Ya'all - Be thinking about your friends and neighbors for PCO's.  Suggest names of people you know.  Mike, Kathleen, and Pete can ask them about being PCO or PCO assistant.

Many Precincts in Clark County underwent boundary changes for population redistricting in June.  This work was done by the Clark County Elections Office to shrink the size of exceptionally large precincts.

The list of altered precincts is:

423, 449, 491, 502, 536, 575, 582, 618, 673, 686, 690, 699, 913, 961, 962, 966, 100, 451, 540, 545, 570, 633, 652, 660, 688, 691, 692, 693, 917, 925, 950, 965, 963, 964

Maps are being procured for us by the Elections Office.  The ramifications of who is the PCO, where their boundaries are, and what rulings exist for continuation of a PCO relocated outside their previous Precinct.  It will take some work by the Clark County Democrat's Executive Board, in conjunction with the vacationing Tim Likness, to clarify the net outcome.
