US Generals Call for Democratic Take-over of Congress

This morning at the gym I saw President Bush on TV insisting that we were winning in Iraq. Then I saw this article in Salon.

Oct. 25, 2006 | WASHINGTON -- Two retired senior Army generals, who served in Iraq and previously voted Republican, are now openly endorsing a Democratic takeover of Congress. The generals, and an active-duty senior military official, told Salon in separate interviews that they believe a Democratic victory will help reverse course from what they consider to be a disastrous Bush administration policy in Iraq. The two retired generals, Maj. Gen. John Batiste and Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton, first openly criticized the handling of the war last spring, when they called for the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

People are getting it. Voters are getting it. We need to have the Democrats take control of Congress for the good of our country.

The Bush administration ignored a report entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the United States." Our country and the people who lost their lives paid the consequences. The administration ignored the plans and warnings about a war in Iraq. The world is paying the consequences for that. The adminstration ignored the warnings about Hurricane Katrina and the people of New Orleans paid the consequences.

The Republicans in Congress have acted as a rubber stamp. We are using more private contractors in war than ever before -- but there is less oversight. Congress, under the Republicans, has abdicated their duty.

It's time for the Republicans to pay the consequences. Please help get out the vote to have a strong Democratic showing in this election. Let's get back to a government based on reason, based on knowledge, and based on strong moral values.
