Cowlitz Casino

Where to begin? This project, slated to be a 160,000 square foot casino just to the west of I-5 at the La Center exit, promises to change both the 18th LD and Clark County as we know it. On the plus side, there will be job creation and an economic base for north county. On the downside, there's stormwater run off issues, and a potential for both I-5 and I-205 to be seriously stacked up due to casino visitors. The players involved on the anti-casino side include Ed Lynch and "property rights activisit" Chuck Cushman (Mr. Rent-A-Riot). Few issues are as loaded with either opportunity or disaster if not handled properly.

Storedahl Mine - North Fork of the Lewis River

The Storedahl gravel mine on the North Fork of the Lewis River continues to be an issue that has great resonance in the 18th Legislative District. This page will serve as a primer on the issue so that 18th LD'ers can get up to speed quickly.

Decision throws wrench in Storedahl plans

Sunday, July 31, 2005
By KATHIE DURBIN, Columbian staff writer

Clark County's decision sharply restricting J.L. Storedahl and Sons' right to mine for gravel on 101 acres near the East Fork of the Lewis River may force the Kelso-based company to rethink its seven-year, $3 million mining expansion bid.
